These beautiful and very useful shopping baskets are made by hand by local weavers in Bolgatanga, Northern Ghana.
The grasses used to weave these items grow wild and are gathered, prepared and naturally dyed ready to be woven into a unique, biodegradable piece.
The baskets are about 25cms deep and 40cms end to end. The handles are big enough to sit on the shoulder and are bound with cow hide to make them more comfortable to hold.
You can, of course, use these baskets for shopping, but also to hold craft projects, craft materials, blankets and all manner of things.
The weavers enjoy working as a group in their villages and support each other in learning the necessary skills. They are paid fairly for their work.
The baskets arrive tightly squashed together. Instructions for reshaping, where necessary, will be included.
