Cross – beaded white with silver cord

A white cross made from animal bone (see notes below), on a silver-coloured cord embellished with beads and macrame knots. It has an adjustable sliding knot.

Hand made in Nepal under fair trade conditions by a group of women working together to support themselves and their families.

Notes on the use of bone for making jewellery:

When domestic animals like buffalo, yaks, goats etc. die or are killed for their meat, the bones are collected and used for making items such as pendants, amulets, rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and even buttons. The items made are bio-degradable, non-toxic and eco-friendly as the the bones would otherwise be discarded as waste.
