These beautiful little baskets have been a very popular item at the yarn-related events I have attended over the last two years. They are approximately 8″ deep and 10″ end to end. The handles are bound with cow hide to make them more comfortable to hold.
You can, of course, use these baskets for shopping, but they are great for storing small craft projects, craft materials, soaps, and all manner of things.
They are made by hand by the small groups of independent, mostly female, weavers in Bolgatanga, Northern Ghana. The grasses used to weave them grow wild and are gathered, prepared and naturally dyed by members of the group, ready to be woven into a unique, biodegradable piece.
The weavers enjoy working as a group in their villages and support each other in learning the necessary skills. They are paid fairly for their work.
The baskets arrive tightly squashed together. Instructions for reshaping, where necessary, will be included.
