These unique baskets are made out of extra thin sisal which is grown on farms belonging to the basket weavers, who mostly live in the Taita hills in south-eastern Kenya. The leaves of the sisal plant are used to obtain a fibre which is rolled into twine, and then woven into a basket. This very fine weave is the most traditional Taita weaving.

This medium size measures very approximately 14cms in diameter at the base, widening to 26cms at the top. They stand about 21cms high.

The maker of each basket has attached a piece of card with her name.
