These beautiful baskets have been a very popular item at the yarn-related events I have attended over the last two years. They are small enough to sit in the palm of your hand and are about 7cms deep and at least 10cms in diameter. The handles are bound with cow hide to make them more comfortable to hold.
They can be used for tiny gifts, small craft projects, craft materials, soaps, and all manner of things.
They are made by hand by a group of weavers in Bolgatanga, Northern Ghana. The grasses used to weave them grow wild and are gathered, prepared and naturally dyed by members of the group, ready to be woven into a unique, biodegradable piece. The women deal with their finances themselves, so are treated fairly.
